Kiplinger just came out with a list of possible base closures or realignments. Do you think we should  close bases or just reduce the numbers in the military? To me it is a shame to put so much money into facilities to just turn around and close them but they still are costly to maintain. This articles points to Alameda Naval Air Station as not causing a turmoil for the many of the communities but it was a small facility compare to some on the lists and I am sure it had other concerns like being in the local air space of commercial aircraft.

Fort Ord closure had a positive impact on the community with the closure. Still the military is not there for the communities but many communities are surviving because the military creates commerce.
